This week I’m excited to be starting the second book in the DeMarco series by Randall Silvis. The first was good and I’m excited to see what the second has in store! I’m also going to be part of the blog tour next month! Look out for that!

Here we go:

Now DeMarco stood and carried his plate and cup to the sink. “Nedra,” he said, “is there a place nearby where we could rent a car for a couple of days?” “In this town?” she said, and shook her head no. “But I’m sure we could find one on my way home this morning. Cullen rented his at the airport, but that’s in the wrong direction. I’m headed east.”

About the Book

The bones of seven young girls, picked clean and carefully preserved, discovered years ago… that’s all Sergeant Ryan DeMarco knows about the unsolved crime he has unwittingly been roped into investigating during what is supposed to be a healing road trip with his new love, Jayme.

DeMarco is still reeling from the case that led to death of his best friend months ago and wants nothing more than to lay low. Unfortunately, the small southern town of Jayme’s idyllic youth is not exactly a place that lets strangers go unnoticed―especially strangers who have a history of solving violent crimes. And if there’s anything DeMarco knows, it’s that a killer always leaves clues behind, just waiting for the right person to come along and put all the pieces together…

Walking the Bones is a story about things buried―memories, regrets, secrets, and bodies. Acclaimed author Randall Silvis delivers another heart-stopping investigation as DeMarco finds himself once again drawn into a case that will demand more of himself than he may be willing to give.

This week, I’m reading a really interesting book which I saw when I went to the bookstore in hardcover form! I always get way too excited about things like that, lol. Anyway, here’s a small preview of this great mystery:

‘Yes. I’ve helped all my children in different ways, depending on what they wanted.’ He carefully rolls up the cuff of his shirtsleeve. ‘Rose only wanted a little place. She was not an extravagant person. I thought it was a good idea after so long being the only girl, and the baby, that she have a bit of independence.’

About the Book

The lead homicide investigator in a rural town, Detective Sergeant Gemma Woodstock is deeply unnerved when a high school classmate is found strangled, her body floating in a lake. And not just any classmate, but Rosalind Ryan, whose beauty and inscrutability exerted a magnetic pull on Smithson High School, first during Rosalind’s student years and then again when she returned to teach drama.

As much as Rosalind’s life was a mystery to Gemma when they were students together, her death presents even more of a puzzle. What made Rosalind quit her teaching job in Sydney and return to her hometown? Why did she live in a small, run-down apartment when her father was one of the town’s richest men? And despite her many admirers, did anyone in the town truly know her?

Rosalind’s enigmas frustrate and obsess Gemma, who has her own dangerous secrets—an affair with her colleague and past tragedies that may not stay in the past.

This week, I’m reading the latest “Keene of Hunters” book by Heather Graham. It’s Poe-based! Here’s a little taste:

She had actually been really angry—as much as she admired Poe. She’d simply seen the dead most of her adult life, and there was one thing she knew for a certainty. They were very much like their living selves.

About the book:

Eager to start their life together, historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce take a detour en route to their new home in Virginia and stop for a visit in Baltimore. But their romantic weekend is interrupted when a popular author is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe-themed restaurant. Because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the corpse, the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is invited to investigate. As more bizarre deaths occur, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into a case that has disturbing echoes of Poe’s great works, bringing the horrors of his fiction to life.

The restaurant is headquarters to scholars and fans, and any of them could be a merciless killer. Except there’s also something reaching out from beyond the grave. The late, great Edgar Allan Poe himself is appearing to Vickie in dreams and visions with cryptic information about the murders. Unless they can uncover whose twisted mind is orchestrating the dramatic re-creations, Vickie and Griffin’s future as a couple might never begin.

I am loving this book so far – and I’ll be on the book tour coming up early next month! It’s super creepy and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

So, without further ado:

I thanked her before walking back down the narrow hallway to Mary’s office. I could usually get in and out within forty-five minutes, depending on how much Mary wanted to probe. I felt a familiar sense of frustration rush over me—there was too much to do, too much at stake for me to stop and have a chat.

About the Book

Detective Steven Paul has had the same nightmare for as long as he can remember, a strange symbol figuring prominently into his terror. He decided long ago that the recurring dreams are nothing more than an unfortunate side effect of his often traumatic profession. Until, that is, he’s assigned to the case of Emily Lindsey, the beautiful, elusive, and controversial blogger found alone, holding a hunting knife and covered in someone else’s blood.

As Steven questions Emily, she repeatedly scratches out the same odd symbol he sees when he closes his eyes. A thrilling suspense ensues as Steven must get inside Emily’s head to solve a mystery without a crime—a mystery that is connected to him in ways he can’t even begin to fathom.

I was really excited to get started on this book after reading the description. It caught my attention right away. I’m so pumped to get going and share a sneak peak with you all!

The desire to open up to Esther is very strong—the need to loosen this knot inside me that is being pulled tighter and tighter. The pressure in my head that has been building since the day I got the Facebook request threatens to reach bursting point.

Happy reading!

“This is really humiliating, you know? I mean, I don’t even know your first name and I’m confessing all my secrets.”

Happy reading!
