This week, I’m reading the latest “Keene of Hunters” book by Heather Graham. It’s Poe-based! Here’s a little taste:

She had actually been really angry—as much as she admired Poe. She’d simply seen the dead most of her adult life, and there was one thing she knew for a certainty. They were very much like their living selves.

About the book:

Eager to start their life together, historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce take a detour en route to their new home in Virginia and stop for a visit in Baltimore. But their romantic weekend is interrupted when a popular author is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe-themed restaurant. Because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the corpse, the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is invited to investigate. As more bizarre deaths occur, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into a case that has disturbing echoes of Poe’s great works, bringing the horrors of his fiction to life.

The restaurant is headquarters to scholars and fans, and any of them could be a merciless killer. Except there’s also something reaching out from beyond the grave. The late, great Edgar Allan Poe himself is appearing to Vickie in dreams and visions with cryptic information about the murders. Unless they can uncover whose twisted mind is orchestrating the dramatic re-creations, Vickie and Griffin’s future as a couple might never begin.

I am loving this book so far – and I’ll be on the book tour coming up early next month! It’s super creepy and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

So, without further ado:

I thanked her before walking back down the narrow hallway to Mary’s office. I could usually get in and out within forty-five minutes, depending on how much Mary wanted to probe. I felt a familiar sense of frustration rush over me—there was too much to do, too much at stake for me to stop and have a chat.

About the Book

Detective Steven Paul has had the same nightmare for as long as he can remember, a strange symbol figuring prominently into his terror. He decided long ago that the recurring dreams are nothing more than an unfortunate side effect of his often traumatic profession. Until, that is, he’s assigned to the case of Emily Lindsey, the beautiful, elusive, and controversial blogger found alone, holding a hunting knife and covered in someone else’s blood.

As Steven questions Emily, she repeatedly scratches out the same odd symbol he sees when he closes his eyes. A thrilling suspense ensues as Steven must get inside Emily’s head to solve a mystery without a crime—a mystery that is connected to him in ways he can’t even begin to fathom.

“This is really humiliating, you know? I mean, I don’t even know your first name and I’m confessing all my secrets.”

Happy reading!

I am so excited to get going with this book, and I’m pumped to be part of the book tour at the end of the month! So, without further ado, from “The Kindred Killers”:

Their reactions are telling. Freddie blanches and gives a little gag. The brothers remain implacable, bar the faintest trace of revulsion.

#Blog Tour: Death Wish by Linda Huber

Blog Tour (1)

Today, I get to share with you this awesome book – “Death Wish” by Linda Huber! I literally took my Kindle along on the ride to dinner so I could finish it. Enjoy!

Book Description

Death Wish 2Secrets. Lies. Murder.

When Leo decides to go into business with his mother-in-law he soon realises his mistake. Eleanor is the mother-in-law from hell and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Her daughter, Ashley, has her own reasons for hating her mother. The atmosphere is toxic and old wounds refuse to heal.

Next door, eight-year-old Joya has a difficult life. Her parents argue constantly and her grandmother, who lives with them, is approaching death.

Soon these two families will collide and the consequences might just be fatal…

My Review

This book is so packed full of suspense, I found myself using every available minute to read the next chapter. It starts out like a classic horror/thriller movie, where you think everything is normal at first but then slowly, a darker, more sinister picture appears.

The book description only lets you know that there are two families involved, and they somehow become involved in a dark secret together. I love this vagueness because as the story unfolds, there’s so many possibilities your mind is just spinning. The various plot lines lead to so many tense, deep moments it’s hard to predict where things are going to go.

I also liked the main characters. They seemed to have really good intentions, but just got in way over their heads. I was completely involved in these characters’ lives and was rooting for them.

OK, now the ending. Seriously – I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT THAT ENDING. It’s amazing and doesn’t let up until the very last sentence. I want to hear other people’s thoughts.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, suspenseful drama. It’s among the best I’ve read this year.

Currently, I’m reading “Unraveling Oliver” by Liz Nugent. This book will grab you right away – and I’m really enjoying it as it unfolds.

OK here we go:

Notwithstanding the harrowing end to my summer, I also returned a different person. Stepping out of the closet was liberating, and there was no way I could go back.

Dun, dun, dun! I’m loving this book!

“I expected more of a reaction the first time I hit her.”

So begins Liz Nugent’s astonishing debut novel—a chilling, elegantly crafted, and psychologically astute exploration of the nature of evil.

Oliver Ryan, handsome, charismatic, and successful, has long been married to his devoted wife, Alice. Together they write and illustrate award-winning children’s books; their life together one of enviable privilege and ease—until, one evening after a delightful dinner, Oliver delivers a blow to Alice that renders her unconscious, and subsequently beats her into a coma.

In the aftermath of such an unthinkable event, as Alice hovers between life and death, the couple’s friends, neighbors, and acquaintances try to understand what could have driven Oliver to commit such a horrific act. As his story unfolds, layers are peeled away to reveal a life of shame, envy, deception, and masterful manipulation.
