I LOVED Mindy Mejia’s “Everything You Want Me to Be,” and am super excited to read her next novel, “Leave No Trace.”  Here’s a small sneak peek!

I glanced at the bed and pretended to think as I searched Lucas’s face where dark bruises began to ring his eye sockets. My stomach pitched.

This week I’m looking forward to digging into “Let Me Lie,” which has a really intriguing summary. I’m looking forward to reading a good psychological thriller, so hopefully this fits the bill!

Here we go:

Too late I bite my tongue. Billy turns away, but not before I’ve seen the hurt on his face. I stand helplessly for a while, looking at the back of his head and trying to say sorry, but the words won’t come.

After several intense thrillers, I decided to try something lighter in tone. I am a huge an of Sophie Kinsella, so I am excited to get to read her latest! Here’s a little peak:

I’m baffled. Isn’t she even going to try to sell me the chopper thing? She seems to have been utterly derailed, and I can’t work out why.

This week, I’m reading a really interesting book which I saw when I went to the bookstore in hardcover form! I always get way too excited about things like that, lol. Anyway, here’s a small preview of this great mystery:

‘Yes. I’ve helped all my children in different ways, depending on what they wanted.’ He carefully rolls up the cuff of his shirtsleeve. ‘Rose only wanted a little place. She was not an extravagant person. I thought it was a good idea after so long being the only girl, and the baby, that she have a bit of independence.’

About the Book

The lead homicide investigator in a rural town, Detective Sergeant Gemma Woodstock is deeply unnerved when a high school classmate is found strangled, her body floating in a lake. And not just any classmate, but Rosalind Ryan, whose beauty and inscrutability exerted a magnetic pull on Smithson High School, first during Rosalind’s student years and then again when she returned to teach drama.

As much as Rosalind’s life was a mystery to Gemma when they were students together, her death presents even more of a puzzle. What made Rosalind quit her teaching job in Sydney and return to her hometown? Why did she live in a small, run-down apartment when her father was one of the town’s richest men? And despite her many admirers, did anyone in the town truly know her?

Rosalind’s enigmas frustrate and obsess Gemma, who has her own dangerous secrets—an affair with her colleague and past tragedies that may not stay in the past.

This week, I’m reading the latest “Keene of Hunters” book by Heather Graham. It’s Poe-based! Here’s a little taste:

She had actually been really angry—as much as she admired Poe. She’d simply seen the dead most of her adult life, and there was one thing she knew for a certainty. They were very much like their living selves.

About the book:

Eager to start their life together, historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce take a detour en route to their new home in Virginia and stop for a visit in Baltimore. But their romantic weekend is interrupted when a popular author is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe-themed restaurant. Because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the corpse, the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is invited to investigate. As more bizarre deaths occur, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into a case that has disturbing echoes of Poe’s great works, bringing the horrors of his fiction to life.

The restaurant is headquarters to scholars and fans, and any of them could be a merciless killer. Except there’s also something reaching out from beyond the grave. The late, great Edgar Allan Poe himself is appearing to Vickie in dreams and visions with cryptic information about the murders. Unless they can uncover whose twisted mind is orchestrating the dramatic re-creations, Vickie and Griffin’s future as a couple might never begin.

This week has been crazy, so I was unable to post my Teaser Tuesday this Tuesday. So we’re still celebrating TT – but on Thursday! Gasp!

Anyway, I am loving this book so far – and I’ll be on the book tour soon! Yay! It’s really very eerie and unpredictable – I’m excited to see where it goes from here!

Here we go:

Alva lay in bed and waited. There was a drumming in her body. She was still on edge but knew she couldn’t let herself be scared. Not now. She was never scared of anything. Even so, the fear she felt seeing Vanja in the dream did not subside.

About the Book

Alva is a sad and lonely child. With her father locked up in prison, she moves with her mother and two older sisters to an apartment building in town. She does not like her new home. Her room is small and her sisters continue to exclude Alva from their games.

Soon a bizarre murder takes place in the building. A husband discovers his wife dead in the hall of their apartment, two weeks after she disappeared from their home.

Where had the body been hidden for two weeks? And how could the perpetrator get in and out of the apartment?

As more disturbing things start to take place, Alva is drawn into a sick and twisted game by a killer who is hiding in plain sight. But Alva is just a child and has no idea just how deadly her new friend might be…

The Man in the Wall is a thrilling and stylish Scandinavian thriller.
